Universal president Tom Shelley launched a career as a drummer and drum builder some forty-three years ago. Not long after, he opened his own retail drum shop. There he developed a keen awareness of the challenges faced by dealers on a daily basis. When Tom went into the distribution business with Universal Percussion in 1976, he made sure that his new company focused on helping dealers to meet those challenges.

Over the ensuing years, Tom Shelley has maintained an active participation in the percussion-sales field. He’s vice president of the Music Distributors Association, a board member of the Percussion Marketing Council, and a member of NAMM, as well as the National Association of Music Dealers (NAMD) and the Percussive Arts Society. His
achievements earned him recognition as Ohio’s Small Business Person Of The Year in 2005.

Likewise, Universal itself has become recognized for its many years of efficient and customer-pleasing operation. The company has been profiled in major consumer and trade publications, including Modern Drummer, The Music Trades, Musical Merchandise Review, and Drum Business.

Today, Universal Percussion still operates on the philosophy that Tom Shelley established from the beginning. Everyone on the phone at Universal is a drummer. Many have worked in retail. Doing Business with Us

Universal Percussion, Inc. does not sell directly to any consumers (if you cannot find our products locally, call us for the name of a retailer that can supply your needs.) We welcome any music dealers to apply with us to carry our product line. You must provide the following: 3 trade references (Music Industry) 1 business bank account and your business tax ID number.

Payment Options

We accept Discover, Visa, Mastercard, and American Express payments. Open billing is available with credit approval. Payments can also be made by check or money order on COD shipments. Please do not send cash.

Shipping

Shipping is part of our business and we’re good at it.! Orders received before 4:00 pm EST are shipped the same day. Any orders received after 4:00 pm may be subject to shipping the following business day. All orders are shipped F.O.B. Columbiana, Ohio 44408. Merchandise will automatically be back ordered if it is not in stock at the time of shipment. We will call and confirm all back orders before releasing them. All orders returned will be charged a 20% restocking charge. Orders refused or not accepted will cost $10.00 plus shipping cost to reship. Orders under $25.00 per location add an additional $2.50 handling fee. All NSF add $25.00 Returns will not be accepted on products in warranty by other manufactures. Orders that are drop shipped will be charged a handling fee of $5.00 per box.
